How long can someone stay for respite care at Oakham Grange?

We offer flexible short-term stays ranging from 14 days to several weeks, depending on availability and individual needs. Whether you require a brief break, holiday cover or post-hospital recovery support, our team will work with you to arrange the right length of stay.

For first time respite we always recommend a minimum 2 week stay. The first week will always feel a little strange as you get to know us and we get to understand your preferences. The second week is when the resident really gets to feel part of the home, relaxes with new friends and enjoys the social side of life at Oakham Grange. The second week is also the time those enjoying a break from being a carer at home have relaxed enough to benefit from a full night’s sleep.

What is included in a respite or short-stay placement?

Respite residents receive the same level of personalised care as those staying with us long-term. This includes 24-hour support, medication management, home-cooked meals, daily activities, access to all communal areas and a private en-suite bedroom. We assess respite residents as we would a long-term stay, to ensure we can support clinical needs as well as their holistic ones, this way we can tailor each stay around the resident’s routines, preferences and wellbeing needs.

Do you provide nursing support for short-stay residents?

Yes. Our respite programme includes full short-stay nursing care for those qualifying for Funded Nursing Care (FNC), so it’s ideal for individuals recovering from illness, injury or needed some proactive TLC after a hospital discharge. Our registered nurses and experienced care team offer round-the-clock clinical support, helping residents regain their confidence and strength.

Can respite care be arranged at short notice?

Whenever possible, we aim to accommodate respite bookings quickly, particularly for families needing urgent support or temporary elderly care near OakhamUppingham or wider Rutland. Give us a call and we will guide you through availability, potential funding, next steps and an assessment.

What should we bring for a respite stay?

We encourage families to bring comfortable clothing, toiletries, medication, mobility aids and familiar items such as photos or favourite books, anything which makes you smile. Personal touches help residents feel settled from the outset, enabling Oakham Grange to be ‘home from home’. Everything else – from bedding to meals and daily support – is provided here by our care and support team.
